Best-selling Author Edwin Black Visits Tallahassee – by Rita Blank
On January 21 the Holocaust Education Resource Council and the FSU College of Law sponsored best-selling author Edwin Black’s lecture “How IBM Co-Planned and Co-Organized the Holocaust”. Barbara Goldstein, HERC President, welcomed everyone and College of Law Dean Donald L. Weidner introduced our guest speaker at the FSU Alumni Center.
Mr. Black, a world-wide speaker, explained how IBM’s punch card technology was used by the Nazi regime to organize, identify, and help exterminate millions of Jews and other Europeans. His book, IBM and the Holocaust, has sold over a million copies in 65 countries, and is the subject of soon to be released ma- jor Hollywood film.
Close to 200 guests listened intently as Mr. Black presented evidence of his extensive research. Mr. Black’s remarks were followed by a question and answer session, a book signing, delicious desserts and much discussion.
The evening was a wonderful opportunity for HERC and the Col- lege of Law to welcome Mr. Black for his first visit to Tallahassee.
Earlier in the day Mr. Black visited Temple Israel, where he spoke on Israel and international law, and Tallahassee Community College where he spoke on how the study of eugenics began in America and spread to Nazi Germany.
