Edith Eger was born in Kosice, Slovakia on September 29, 1927. Her family was sent to Auschwitz in 1944, where her parents, Lajos and Ilona Elefant, died. After surviving Auschwitz, Edith moved to Czechoslovakia where she met her husband, Bela Eger, and had her first child. In 1949 they moved to the United States where Eger received her Psychology degree from the University of Texas and then went on to pursue a doctoral internship. Eger went on to have two more kids but denied her past. She did this to protect her children. Eger wanted to be a source of life instead of pain and loss. But she soon realized that her silence did not free her from her past but instead kept her there as a prisoner. She soon started to publicly acknowledge that she was a survivor. As of today, she has written books, has an emotional self-healing course, and has been featured in many interviews. You can find those things and many more including some of her favorite recipes on her website.
“I eat and cook now because once I was starving. And so that I can pass on something from my parents. If I feed the generations to come, I can feel that my parents didn’t die in vain.” – Edith Eger. Visit Edith’s Website Here
