Steve Uhlfelder was a passionate, determined advocate for continuing Holocaust education…and for good reason. Steve’s paternal grandparents and other family members were victims of the Holocaust. Luckily his father survived to remember the family stories of courage. Steve never lost his vision to remember the past, to remember those lost.
We have now lost Steve, who stood for justice and with fierce determination, kept pushing for change in education and change for the better. HERC proudly honored Steve with its Remembrance Award in 2021. The tribute video can be viewed which highlights his accomplishments. http://bit.ly/3XZ1Ge6 . He will be missed every day; look for future programs to honor his memory.
Disturbing news recently of Neo-Nazis rallying outside the Broadway preview of “Parade,” about an antisemitic murder was reported in New York. Article can be viewed at: http://bit.ly/3ZgY3kX. In 2023, Holocaust education is needed more than ever to respond to antisemitic attacks. WE MUST STEP UP AND STAND UP when we see it.
Renew your membership to HERC now, when Holocaust history is too often misused and misunderstood. HERC teaches Holocaust history and inspires people to act on its most important lessons.
Knowing your commitment to HERC’s mission, please let us count on your donation for continuing support. Funding for student trips, speakers and books is provided with these donations. Starting with as little as $23 for 2023 makes a difference. We must make sure the world never forgets the critical lessons of the horrors and hatred of the Holocaust. We are living in a time where Holocaust denial persists and distortion of it is rising. Combine that with the knowledge there are fewer and fewer Holocaust survivors to share experiences firsthand, education is more important now that ever.
As the need for HERC’s mission grows, with your generous support, we continue to expand our reach and find more ways to teach the many lessons of history.
