Featured speaker Michael Berenbaum, an eminent Holocaust historian who played a lead role in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s creation, will discuss the importance of understanding a lesser-known part of the “Final Solution.” Come to HERC’s June 14th event to hear Berenbaum speak on the relevance today of the “Holocaust by Bullets,” the murder of as many as 2 million Jews in eastern Europe, including at least 1.5 million in Ukraine. Scholar, professor, rabbi, writer, and filmmaker, Berenbaum has played a prominent role in preserving the memory of the Holocaust for decades. He served as the director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Holocaust Research Institute and was the content creator for its permanent exhibition. Currently, he is director of the American Jewish University’s Sigi Ziering Institute: Exploring the Ethical and Religious Implications of the Holocaust. He previously served as deputy director of the President’s Commission and CEO of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation.Since HERC’s founding, Berenbaum has been a keynote speaker several times in Tallahassee. He brings much awareness of resources to Holocaust organizations worldwide allowing us to expand our reach to more educators and students. Dr. Berenbaum received his PhD from Florida State University.
