Protecting the Truth
As survivors so powerfully remind us, the lessons of the Holocaust are timeless. They teach us about the dangers of unchecked antisemitism and hatred and the responsibility we all have to confront it. Your support to help teach the facts of history far and wide is needed now.
According to Nobel Prize Winner and Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, “We owe it not only to the living,” he says of the need to remember the killing of 6 million Jews during the Nazi Holocaust, but to those who died as well. “If we forget, the dead will be killed a second time,” Wiesel says, “and then they are today’s victims.” (1928-2016)
We are very excited to announce our 2G Next Generation – A Group for Children and Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors has started meeting in January.
They are the first generation after the darkness. Through their parents’ memories, words, and silence they are linked to that annihilated Jewish existence whose echoes permeate their consciousness.
They dedicate this pledge to their parents who suffered and survived, to their grandparents who perished in the flames, and more than one million Jewish children, so brutally murdered.
To all six million Jews and five million non-Jews, whose unyielding spiritual and physical resistance, even in the camps and ghettos, exemplifies the commitment to life.
We pledge to remember . . . and never forget.
If you are a child or a grandchild of Holocaust Survivors, we welcome you to join us as part of 2G Next Generation. We are called 2G’s for children of Survivors (Second Generation after the Holocaust), 3G’s for grandchildren (Third Generation after the Holocaust), and 4G’s for great grandchildren (Fourth Generation after the Holocaust).
Next Generations Activities will be able to speak at HERC events as well as in schools throughout the Big Bend area, telling their parents’ stories as well as what it means to be part of a Holocaust Survivor’s family.
As our parents/grandparents get older or are no longer available to tell their stories, it will be us, the generations after the Survivors, who will be the speakers of truth to the world.
Belonging to Next Generation is an opportunity to network with other sons and daughters (and grandchildren) of Survivors. Do you know anyone else who is a 2G or 3G? Please tell them about us, and let us know about them.
As I am the child of Holocaust survivors, their message is important more than ever to carry on. My parent’s resilience showed the importance of courage in circumstances beyond our imagination. They said to me, never forget to tell the stories that should never happen to you.
Donate now in their memory to all the survivors.
