Surviving the Survivor – Dinner June 5th
Wednesday evening of June 5th, members of HERC’s Board of Directors and their guests hosted a dinner at Food Glorious Food, for the podcast hosts of “Surviving the Survivor”, Joel Waldman and his mother, Karmela Waldman. Joel has written a book about his charming mother, highlighting her being hidden in a convent at five years old in Poland to survive the Holocaust. Karmela, with heartfelt honesty, describes her experiences then and post Holocaust, holding the attention of everyone in the room. Joel and Karmela have a playful presentation and relationship which is reflected in the book and in the podcast.

Friendly and warm, Karmela and Joel, told us about themselves and what led to the podcast, graciously listened to the many stories from other guests when there were tears alongside much laughter.
Jared Ross, a Board member and a fan and guest on the podcast, reported that Karm is a true inspiration and her stories of survival are incredible. The world is a better place because she is part of it. I know they were both inspired by the work HERC does and thanked them for including Tallahassee in their book tour.
Joel and Karm have been following the 2014 murder of Dan Markel, who was a part of our Jewish community. They have spoken with those involved in the case and shared their insights and experience.
A delightful, interesting, moving evening for all. Buy the book to learn more about life lessons from Karm and Joel.
