When Teachers and Students Benefit, Everyone Learns

History has come to life at the Monticello Opera House with a full house of students, teachers and parents were there to witness as The Diary of Anne Frank was presented in a special Student Matinee on April 26th. It was a powerful performance with an exhibit on display in the lower level for everyone to view. The History for Today, Anne Frank, gave insight to the history with her life and the family living in hiding for over two years. Get your seats as closing date is May 7th.

“Unto Every Person There Is A Name”

April 19th was Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Holocaust Education Resource Council – HERC hosted a reading of the names with Hillel at FSU in front of the student union. The number is staggering. If you read 650 names per hour for 24 hours straight, it would take you over 400 days to read the names of the 6,000,000 Jews murdered. So, we read a portion. And as each person read the names aloud, they knew that each of them had a story, a family, hopes, and dreams, all stolen from them by hate. For those names that indicated where they perished, if it was someplace visited, like Dachau, or Bergen-Belsen, or Auschwitz, it was too easy to picture them suffering. Rise of Antisemitism See our new survey results done last month indicating increase and alarming numbers of Holocaust awareness and antisemitism. This is a call to action. Education is the best way to reach and teach the lessons that causes and leads to growing hate. Film features, Reckonings, on May 15th at the Challenger Center.
